14.8 kgs seems to be a bit much, usual (hardtail) xc competition bikes are about 10-11 kgs. I don't know how much mine is (Trek 8500), but supposed to be around 11 kgs. Hopefully a bit under. ![]() Yes, weight is a decisive factor, but not the only one. It is quite easy to get down to 11 kgs, but to make it under 10 requires horrible expenses. I had a look at the specification of the Merida you named, looks nice and comes with XT parts, that must be more than sufficient. The Jamis is similarly equipped, but surprising that the frame is Cro-Mo. |

Hi all..I went with the Merida. Getting used now to clipins as I have never used them before It climbed well on Sunday ride.Went over handlebars this morning riding to work....2 pedestrians were crossing road about 10m up from corner and crossing, as I rounded it...one stopped started and one stopped started stopped so over I went....brakes worked! Now have sprained wrist and sore ribs. |
