Hi, everybody!
I'm sure that everyone has taken part in foot-o mass competitions, which usually are held in bigger cities on weekdays. But does anybody know if there are such for MTB-O? Yesterday (16/04) we started one in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is on Wednesdays around Vilnius.
www.mtb.lt/mtbo - unfortunately only in lithuanian - it is called "MTBO treciadieniai"

In Budapest there are competitions on every Thursdays afternoon, but the term of 'mass' competition I feel a little bit strong - there are no more, than 20-30 competitors per event. How popular is this in Vilnius or Tallinn? Are there more participants?

Hi again!
Well this is a first time that we organize mass competition especially for MTBO. In first event there were 34 participants, but we hope for more. We hope to attract the ones from MTB.
All 16 events will be held on MTBO maps.
Here is a map of Giedrius from wednesday, drawn automatically by gps:

See you next weekend

I wonder how you are going to succeed with involving 'simple' MTB-ers. They seem to be much more difficult to catch than orienteers. Maybe learning to read map is more threatening than learning to ride a bike.

We have the same issue here in New Zealand..how to make the sport more appealing to the rank and file mtbers of whom there are 000s as opposed to small 00s in mtbo.  1500 turn out for epic mtb rides!
